Composite Fastpitch Softball Bats

Composite fastpitch softball bats generally used to need around 150 to 200 hits before the material was responsive enough to perform up to the bat’s potential. But, newer models offer better performance right out of the wrapper.

If you are buying a fastpitch softball bat with an aluminum barrel, there is no break-in necessary to get the bat into game ready form. Aluminum bats are usually ready to go and will play to their full potential right off the shelf. With composite fastpitch softball bats, if you take a little time and effort, you can maximize the performance and life of your bat. When taking batting practice, try to rotate the bat about a 1/4 inch on every swing. This ensures that your bat gets even wear.

Composite Fastpitch Softball Bats and Temperature

The majority of people believe that composite fastpitch softball bats tend to be much more temperature sensitive than alloy bats. All bat performance decreases in the cold.  Composite fastpitch softball bats tend to be more susceptible to breakage in the extreme cold. Many manufacturers have their own list of recommended minimum temperatures that their bats should be used in. However, as a general rule, it is recommended that player’s avoid using your bat in temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. There isn't a maximum temperature to really consider; however composite bats tend to have slightly increased responsiveness in warmer weather.

There are ways to prolong the life of your composite fastpitch softball bats. Limit the use of your game bat in the batting cage. Save the wear and tear for when it really matters. Do not use dimpled balls. These balls can and will damage your bat. Do not use your composite fastpitch softball bat to knock dirt off of your cleats especially if you wear metal cleats.
